Arts for a nonsensical world
Works from the group show ‘About the Human Figure’ @michaelwernergallery until 4 Sep. Paintings, sculptures and installations by nine artists offer depictions of the human figure – in repose, gazing directly at us, floating – and by extension the self, form, identity, and psychology in physical, reflective and relational aspects. . Interesting knowing that when we are learning about human figures in art, namely within anatomy and life drawing, the first thing the eye looks for is the human face, and when I caught my masked face reflection in two of the works which had no actual human figures, it seemed absence sensing absence, but knowing presence.
